Paris, December 6th 2011

Dear friends,

Almost 10 000 of you – in Lyon, in the Rhône-Alpes region, and in Paris, at the Cartoucherie – have now seen the thirty young Cambodian actors in Hélène Cixous' L’Histoire terrible mais inachevée de Norodom Sihanouk, roi du Cambodge (The Terrible but Unfinished Story of Norodom Sihanouk) directed by Georges Bigot and Delphine Cottu. Following this new staging - in the Khmer language – of the First Epoch, and before, we hope, the company's swift return for the creation of the Second Epoch, some of the young artists from Battambang's Phare Ponleu Selpak School of the Arts will be performing Royaumes, a circus show for all the family, here at the Cartoucherie over the holiday season from 11th - 31st December 2011. This production is brought to you by the Collectif clowns d’ailleurs et d’ici and the Pharre Ponleu Selpak Cirk troupe. So there is still time to come and discover these young artists of great courage, integrity and breathtaking skill. We look forward to seeing you there.

Next year…

2012 will begin with another momentous occasion, one very close to our hearts – the return to our theatre of Eugenio Barba's Odin Teatret. Yes, from 8th-19th February 2012, Eugenio Barba will be back in France with his new production La Vie chronique, which we are proud to say will be performed in our very own theatre. You may well remember Mythos and Ode to progress which we hosted in 2000 and also Andersen’s Dream and Salt in 2005. We will soon have more information and a complete programme of the fortnight's performances, discussions and workshops with Eugenio Barba, a great master and a very great friend.

We will also be continuing to support the work of several young companies. Two of our 'cousin' companies will perform productions which they created here :

-TAF Théâtre will perform Tales from the Vienna Woods by Ödon von Horvath, directed by Alexandre Zloto from 13th January - 5th February 2012.
- L’Instant d’une Résonance presents Shakespeare's Cymbeline , directed by Hélène Cinque, which will run from 8th March-29th April 2012.

And soon, we'll be able to let you know more about Lorialets and the adventure of Notre Commune - for this coming Spring which we hope will be a beautiful one for you all…

News from across the ocean, of our Naufragés du Fol Espoir

We have now completed the first part of an extremely joyous tour to Brazil, to Sao Paulo, hosted by our friends at SESC, and to Rio de Janeiro. Our sets have now gone on to Porto Alegre where we will perform as part of the Festival Porto Alegre Em Cena from 6th-11th December 2011. Then our caravan will cross the Cordillera des Andes to arrive in Santiago, in Chili, where will perform as part of the Santiago a Mil festival from 4th-22nd January 2012.

And our film, yes, your film, you may well say...

As well you know, we haven't yet finished shooting our film, but we haven't abandoned it either! Despite certain financial constraints, we will continue it – in an artisanal way! - in March and April 2012, thanks to the funds that our generous supporters have enabled us to acquire, and then again in June 2012, with the full 'ciné-theatre' team. If you still wish to participate in the wonderful and necessary common effort to create this film, and become a 'Great Subscriber', you are still very welcome – please join the Subscription Programme today!

Wishing you a very happy end to 2011,

The Théâtre du Soleil
